Well.. This took awhile to create actually. The first step was pretty logical and that is to collect the Data required. This was no where near as easy as I hoped! Gah. I've got the data in raw format if anybody was interested in creating something similar.

The process of collecting the data was as I said before, difficult. First I checked a few webpages that hosts pub guides etc. After a few minutes googling i found www.theguide.net.au. Then I was thinking, hey easy! They've already got a nifty search feature in there so I can just write a simple perl script to grab all the data.
But, that didn't turn out to be that good. This script did a great job and did everything I wanted.. but the website only lets you see 100 items of what you searched for. Doesn't really help when it says there is 165 pubs. :(

This script was made to try and grab all the pubs by going to the sitemap and going through every single suburb. That worked! or did it? I only got 134 pubs or something when I was expecting 165? Yes. Everything got confusing quite quickly. Apparently after going through every single suburb it doesn't find every pub? Gah, I couldn't really be bothered to follow this further to be honest. I'll just say it was one of their errors for not filing their data correctly.

When the data was all collected from both scripts, i joined them together and sorted them. Then I manually went through and deleted all the duplicates. This seemed to give the biggest list of pubs. But I'm still down quite a few actually.

I have been adding in pubs as people tell me about them and as I remember. But eh, it's only a rough guide.

The forms and php stuff isn't really all that interesting to make note of really. So I'm not going to bother posting the source of that.
